stores and offices

Our goal is for all of our stores worldwide to be eco-efficient by 2020.

Massimo Dutti stores

Stores are an essential part of the Massimo Dutti business model, as they are where our customers discover the clothing we have to offer. Eco-efficiency is a priority when designing our new stores and we are currently renovating our existing stores to meet our goal of making all of our stores worldwide eco-efficient by 2020.

We save energy and water.
Our eco-efficient stores save up to 20% energy and 40% water.
We programme the lights, heating and air conditioning to meet the store’s needs at any given moment, thereby controlling our consumption of energy and reducing our CO2 emissions.

we reuse and recycle

We also prioritise the use of recycled and reused materials, with low energy consumption and locally sourced. For example, all the wood used in our eco-efficient stores is sourced from sustainably and responsibly managed forests.

We extend the life of our boxes, bags, hangers and alarms by reusing them until it’s time to recycle them, thereby reducing the volume of waste. Our goal is zero waste in our stores, offices and logistics centres by 2025.

The cardboard boxes that arrive at our stores are used up to three times before being recycled. They go from the hands of our suppliers to our distribution centres and central warehouses, before arriving at our stores. Once they arrive at our stores, we reuse them as long as they are still in optimal conditions for storing or transporting garments and store materials, and once they are no longer reusable, we recycle them.

With this recycled cardboard, we produce part of the boxes that we use for shipping online order packages. Boxes made from our very own boxes.

In addition to this, we have also changed the bags that we provide for our customers in our stores, which are sourced from sustainably and responsibly managed forests.

leed certification

All of our openings comply with maximum sustainability criteria.

Three of our stores are LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) or BREEAM-certified. These two certification systems are benchmarks in terms of environmental standards for sustainable buildings.

the commitment from us and our teams

We have created training programmes in more sustainable practices such as reusing, recycling and reducing energy and water consumption, which help us to guarantee an eco-friendly management of our stores.

We have ongoing training and awareness programmes to teach our teams about all the sustainability actions we are developing throughout the life cycle of our products. We develop specific training for each team: Raw materials and processes for design teams, waste management in storerooms and sustainability standards for our suppliers.

As part of our social and environmental commitment, we want to help you extend the useful life of your garments by developing a used clothes collection programme.
In collaboration with local non-profit organisations, we recover garments that are no longer used and give them a second life.
Leave clothing you no longer use in the containers you will find in our stores. We will be responsible for getting them to the non-profit organisation that will manage the garments and develop projects in your community.
This service is currently available at selected stores, and we will continue working so that you may soon hand in clothing you want to recycle at any of our stores worldwide.

Massimo Dutti offices

Our building in Tordera (Spain) represents a key part in contributing to the sustainability of our clothing. Therefore, along with the logistics centre, they are an essential part of Inditex’s environmental strategy.

The Massimo Dutti head offices and logistics centre are GOLD-certified by LEED, a certification system for sustainable buildings, because they meet specific criteria for sustainable construction.

our servers

The MassimoDutti.com servers and offices consume energy from environmentally friendly renewable energy sources.

We are working to make MassimoDutti.com an eco-efficient website.

100% of the energy used by MassimoDutti.com servers and offices comes from renewable energy, and we are working to ensure our website grows in a sustainable way.

Our Technological Centre in Spain consumes 100% clean energy and is certified as a Platinum LEED by the US organisation Green Building Council that certifies sustainable buildings.

We are working to reduce our energy consumption

To accommodate the growth of our website, now in 146 markets, we have broadened our server structures with technologies that improve energy performance by using more efficient power sources or better systems to dissipate heat.

We are working on the Green To Pack project to make our packaging more sustainable.

our packaging

We are redesigning all our packaging to reduce raw material consumption, increase recycled content and unify materials to facilitate reuse and recycling.

Furthermore, with this programme we hope to lengthen the life of our boxes, bags, hangers and security tags by reusing them until it?s time to recycle them.

Cardboard boxes are reused up to 5 times; they go through our suppliers, distribution centres and central warehouses before arriving at our stores. These boxes are reused as long as they are still in optimal condition for storing or transporting garments and store materials, and once they are no longer usable, we recycle them. With this recycled cardboard, we produce some of the boxes which we use as packaging for sending online orders.

In addition, since 2008 all the bags we provide our customers with in store are made of FSC certified paper and use 80% recycled paper, thus reducing the consumption of virgin paper.
