We collaborate on social projects aimed at developing the community. Our social initiatives are focused on efforts to further social welfare, education and humanitarian aid.

Social welfare

We work on initiatives aimed at developing the community through social integration programmes for vulnerable groups.

Thanks to Inditex’s Salta programme, we are able to foster workplace integration in our very own stores, factories and logistics centres for those at risk of social exclusion and facing difficulties entering the labour market. Since the project began in 2008, over 1,100 people have been hired and more than 50% are still working with us. The project has a presence in 14 cities (New York, Mexico City, São Paulo, Lisbon, Madrid, Barcelona, Paris, London, Milan, Hamburg, Athens, Warsaw, Istanbul and Seoul), and we are working to extend the programme to other places around the world. This project is made possible thanks to the collaboration of hundreds of employees who participate as tutors and volunteers in the training process and follow-up.

We have developed various programmes aimed at promoting education as the driving force for social change in a number of countries.

education

Since 2001, we have collaborated with the NGO Entreculturas in 11 countries/regions across Africa, Asia and the Americas on technical and professional education programmes for vulnerable individuals, focusing mainly on the younger generation. Since the beginning of this collaboration, over 1 million people have directly benefited from the project.

As for China, we also collaborate with the China Youth Development Foundation by training teachers and building or renovating schools in rural areas.

Within academia, we work with different universities to further research in the social field. We currently have a network of university chairs in collaboration with institutions such as Comillas Pontifical University, the University of Santiago de Compostela, the University of A Coruña, the Miguel Hernández University of Alicante and the University of Dhaka (Bangladesh). Moreover, we collaborate with Tsinghua University (China) and Beijing Normal University by offering a specific scholarship programme for university students in China.

We work together with organisations such as Médecins Sans Frontières, Water.org, the Red Cross, Entreculturas, Cáritas and Every Mother Counts on developing social projects.

humanitarian aid

Our humanitarian aid programmes are focused on offering support in emergencies such as natural disasters or armed conflicts.

Since 2011, we have been collaborating on a regular basis with the Emergency Unit at Médecins Sans Frontières to ensure that they have the necessary resources to respond to humanitarian crises. We complement this long-term collaboration with other emergency response efforts around the globe.

We have taken part in aid projects to protect the lives, health and well-being of those affected by the armed conflicts in Syria, Yemen and Nigeria, the refugee crisis in the Mediterranean, and the earthquakes in Italy and Ecuador.

We also support those affected by the earthquake in Mexico by collaborating with the Mexican Red Cross and Entreculturas on emergency programmes that have helped 18,400 people affected by the disaster.

In 2018, 2.4 million people benefited directly from our social programmes.
